One of the best things about going on holiday to Disney is definitely meeting the different characters. The main characters tend to be around Fantasyland between 11am and 2pm during the day, with the other characters being out during the Extra Magic Hours at the start of the day. I talked about these in my previous blog post.
We did meet quite a few characters on our holiday, so today, I'm going to give you my top tips on how to meet characters in Disneyland Paris!
1) Do not ask City Hall
When we found out that we were going to Disney, my ideal character to meet was Peter Pan. He is literally my idol, there's no questioning that. When we googled online how we could meet him, a lot of people said to go and ask City Hall where he would be. Whatever you do, do not ask City Hall. They don't tell you anything, they say that it is going to be a surprise and they will not tell you where anyone is going to be. It's a waste of time.
2) Wear their Merchandise
If you meet Mickey and Minnie with a pair of their ears on, they will make such a massive fuss of you. They absolutely love it when you wear their merchandise, they make a really big deal and the cheeky characters might even steal it off you for a little while. When I met Pan, he loved the fact that I had a necklace related to him.
3) Do Extra Magic Hours
I know it might be a pain getting the kids up early, or even getting yourself up early, but these are definitely something that you should take advantage if. If you're staying in one of the main Disney hotels, you'll be entitled to these extra hours in the park. Instead of being allowed in at 10am, you're allowed in at 8am and the main characters congregate on Main Street so that you can go and meet them. The queues aren't too long either, plus you'll look fabulous in the morning when you've just got ready; much better than you will in the afternoon.
4) Stars in their Cars
I talked about this a little bit in my previous blog post. In the studios at different points in the day, different Disney Characters parade around in their cars and as the crowds congregate in a circle, they get out and go and meet people. It's classed as a parade but it is definitely more of a meet and greet. Definitely take advantage of it, but be kind, don't be forceful.
5) Be patient
Characters hate it when you shove and push around them, I'm sure it makes them feel claustrophobic and it'll just make them take an instant dislike to you. If you stand and wait patiently, they'll take notice of you and spend more time with you because you're not pushing and shoving. If you push and shove too much, the character will have no choice but to go inside, so don't ruin it for everyone. Be patient. Also, some of the characters need to take regular 10 minute breaks for water and to cool down, so don't go mad, still wait in line because they're back before you know it.
6) Be polite
Following on nicely from my last point, but I cannot stress how important it is to be nice and polite. When you leave, say thankyou. Say hello and give them a hug. They like it when people are kind and polite, they'll really take a shine to you and want to spend more time with you.
7) Interact with them
Whatever you do, do not just go up to a character, shove your autograph book in their face, take a photo and then leave. They hate that. Instead, go up to them, tell them they look lovely, ask them how their day has been, ask them if they're doing well. Ask can you have a picture. They really like it when you interact with them and they'll speak back to you. They also really love hugs.
8) Go to Character Gate
Character Gate is the perfect place to see all the different characters, especially the Princesses. It's a little colourful gate at the side of Small World with a lot of benches either side. One day, we sat there in the shade and we saw so many of the Princess' and the characters walking in and out.
9) Tell the character that they're your favourite
If you meet your favourite character, let them know that they're your favourite and that you love them. If you do, they'll make a massive fuss and they'll absolutely love you. Honestly.
10) Character Dining experiences
Although these can be quite expensive, I would recommend to do one. They are a truly magical experience and one that I would do again in a heartbeat. Although, like I said in my last blog post, please do book in advance as they fill up very quickly and I'd hate for you to be disappointed.
